About the training


Workshop goals
Category 1
This workshop is recommended for teachers of Theatre from schools which have taken the decision to apply to offer the Diploma programme or new or recently appointed Theatre teachers from IB World Schools.

Category 2
This workshop is recommended for experienced Theatre teachers from IB World Schools. Teachers must have either attended a previous Category 1 workshop in Theatre OR have been teaching DP Theatre for a number of years.

Target audience
This workshop is recommended for teachers of Theatre from schools which have taken the decision to apply to offer the Diploma programme or new or recently appointed Theatre teachers from IB World Schools.

All teachers of the NEW DP Theatre course beginning in 2022 for cohorts graduating in May/November 2024.

Master class & master class leader
All participants will take part in one virtual master class.

Participants are no longer required to view a theatre performance as part of this workshop.

About your workshop leaders


Category 1 – Catherine Rankin

Catherine Rankin been involved in teaching Drama/Theatre for over 30 years. She has taught Australia, Europe and Asia and has had a strong connection with the IB since 2005. She has been a Team leader, IB Theatre curriculum team member and IB MYP moderator. As well as currently being an educator who works with Middle and Highschool students, Catherine is an ISTA artist, IB examiner and an online facilitator for IB Theatre course. Now pandemic restrictions have eased a bit in the Philippines, she is learning what is needed to be a soccer mum.


Category 2 – Fenella Kelly

Fenella Kelly has been a Theatre Principal Examiner since 2004 and is also part of the steering group who develops the DP Theatre curriculum and assessments. She has been DP Theatre teacher trainer for over 15 years and run face to face and online training all over the world for Categories 1, 2 and 3. For Category 3 she specialises in Devising theatre and Teaching World Theatre traditions. She set up and developed Theatre and Performing Arts departments in Turkey, Brazil, Egypt, Portugal and India. Responsibilities involved mentoring/training staff and writing/overseeing the creation/delivery of the curriculum (MYP, GCSE, DP, MS/HS).


Aileen Gonslaves – Specialist workshop leader

Aileen Gonsalves is the founder of Butterfly Theatre Collective who specialise in site responsive, immersive, and accessible Shakespeare in extraordinary caves and castles across Europe.She developed and teaches across UK leading drama schools and globally runs masterclasses The Gonsalves Method – Meisner in Application enables truthful, authentic, responsive acting. Rooted in her 20 years Meisner experience.

Her book launched recently – Shakespeare and Meisner for Bloomsbury/Arden co-written with Dr Tracy Irish which outlines the Gonsalves Method. She is the Artistic Director of the Immersive Acting School.

Workshop timings
This is a virtual workshop.
Sessions will take place for 5 hours per day on the 3 days of the workshop.
All sessions will take place on Zoom and will be synchronous, interactive and collaborative in approach.
ISTA will provide the links and passwords to all participants shortly before the workshop.

Sessions will take place at the following times (CET time):
18th November 2022: 7:00am – 12:00pm (2:00 – 7:00pm Singapore time) (5 hours)
19th November 2022: 7:00am – 12:00pm (2:00 – 7:00pm Singapore time) (5 hours)
20th November 2022: 7:00am – 12:00pm (2:00 – 7:00pm Singapore time) (5 hours)

Registration fees
ISTA Members – GBP £600
Non ISTA Members – GBP £650

Please note
Any bookings or amendments taken in the six weeks prior to the workshop will incur an additional GBP £50 late booking/amendment surcharge, subject to availability.
Once booked and invoiced the registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable as per event terms and conditions.

What to bring
Current DP Theatre Course Guide (ask your IB coordinator to provide if you do not have it).
Any materials shared with you prior to the workshop such as the workbook.
A notebook and pencil are always useful.

Please have a quiet space to work in and enough room to move about freely.
