Asia Pacific - DP Theatre Category 1 online IB workshop
August 6 - August 8, 2021
The timings of this workshop are scheduled for Singapore time.
While scheduled, primarily, as a workshop for teachers based in the Asia Pacific region, Theatre teachers globally are invited to attend. Please check synchronous session times prior to booking.
Asia Pacific – DP Theatre Category 1 online IB workshop
This workshop is recommended for teachers of Theatre from schools which have taken the decision to apply to offer the Diploma programme or new or recently appointed Theatre teachers from IB World Schools.
The overall purpose of workshops in this category is to provide professional development and assistance for schools that have decided to apply for IB authorisation. They are equally relevant for educators who are new to a school with an existing IB programme and those interested in joining an IB school.
All participants will take part in one interactive and synchronous online master class with an ISTA artist. This will take place during one of the scheduled sessions on day 2.
All participants will view one online professional theatre performance during the course. The performance will be selected by ISTA and teachers will watch this in their own time, asynchronously.
Theatre and master class information
During the workshop the teacher workshop leader will be refering to two theatre pieces. Please take some time to watch these performances prior to the workshop.
The Overcoat (80 mins) by Gogol and created and performed by Gecko.
Master class – Ko-uta in Kyogen
On the beginning of Day 2 participants will have a 90-minute master class on Kyōgen, an ancient Japanese dialogue-based, satiric theatre form, with a focus on ko-uta (small chant).
For this master class,
- please wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing
- have enough free space to stand and minimally move – approximately a 3’ x 3’ square will be needed.
Please note: Participants will sit for the bulk of the class. If you can sit seiza* that would be great – if not, a comfortable chair will do perfectly.
*Seiza (正座 or 正坐, literally “proper sitting”) is the Japanese term for the standard formal traditional way of sitting in Japan.
This is an online workshop.
Sessions will take place for 4 hours per day on the 3 days of the workshop.
All sessions will take place on Zoom and will be synchronous, interactive and collaborative in approach.
The workshop leader will set tasks for teachers to complete in between the live sessions on days 1 and 2.
ISTA will provide the links and passwords to all participants shortly before the workshop.
