Creating theatre online: Live

Workshop description
This workshop explores how to create theatre online. Participants will experiment with space, light and sound to tell original stories.

Learning outcomes

Participants will:

  • explore and experiment with scenic design and special effects in a virtual space
  • understand the dual role of role of the performer and stage manager
  • focus on the communicating with visuals rather than dialogue

Target audience
All teachers of theatre and drama.

About your workshop leader

Joachim Matschoss

I was born in Germany and now live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a playwright, poet and Theatre-maker. My theatre company, ‘Backyard Theatre Ensemble (BYTE)’ presents diverse pieces of theatre all across Melbourne/Australia and internationally, touring annually with original theatre-pieces. I also run masterclasses and workshops nationally and internationally.

I have created various theatre projects online with the focus on LIVE performance.

The workshop will take place on Zoom.
Joining instructions will be emailed to participants 24 hours before the event.
Some familiarity with Google Drive, Google Docs etc. would be helpful, but is not a requirement.

Places are limited to 25 participants

Finances

The cost of this workshop is GBP £35 per person for ISTA members and GBP £40 per person for non members.

Please note that once booked and invoiced the registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable as per our event terms and conditions.

What to bring

Any materials shared with you prior to the workshop, such as the workbook.
A notebook and pencil are always useful.

Space requirements
If possible, please try to have a small amount of space near to you for any practical work.
