Travel & Visas

Arrivals and departures for visiting schools
All schools will make their own travel arrangements for the duration of the festival.

Arrivals and departures for ISTA artists
Upon arrival ISTA artists should look for a representative from the host school at the arrival gate holding a sign with their name who will take you directly to the hotel. Artists will be provided return transportation to the airport at the end of the event.

Daily transportation for visiting students
All schools will make their own travel arrangements for the duration of the festival.

Daily transportation for teachers and ISTA artists
ISTA artists will be provided transportation to and from the hotel and school arranged by the host school. Local teachers are required to make their own daily travel arrangements with their school groups.

Transportation for the cultural excursion
Transportation to and from the cultural excursion location will be provided by school bus. The journey will take approximately 20 minutes though traffic can vary.

Title
A time traveller’s tale

At this festival we will explore…
… what we can learn from the past and how this might help us in the present and the future.

Adventure
Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood. Students will explore this neighbourhood with its traditional style buildings, visit a traditional home, see arts and crafts such as kilim weaving and coffee paintings, and then walk on to the textile souk. We will also take an abra (a traditional wooden boat) across the creek.

Please note:
This festival is also open to non member schools. If you are not a member of ISTA and would like to attend please feel free to email Jo on jo@ista.co.uk.
We advise that you have your group confirmed and all information collected by 4th December 2019.
Travel information is required as part of the registration process. Please have travel details confirmed by the time the registration window opens.
You should arrive in time to be at the festival venue for the 5:00pm start on Wednesday 5th February 2020.
You should not plan to leave the festival venue until after 12:30pm on Saturday 8th February 2020.
Please arrange travel accordingly.

For artists
You need to arrive in time for an evening meal on Tuesday 4th February 2020.
You should not plan to leave the festival venue until after 1:00pm on Saturday 8th February 2020.
The Rep should arrive by evening on Monday 3rd February 2020.
Please arrange travel accordingly.
Travel information is due by 27th November 2020.

Please note:

  1. A GBP £500 non refundable, non transferable deposit will be invoiced upon booking.
  2. A GBP £500 cancellation fee will be invoiced to any school cancelling within 12 weeks from the start of the festival, in addition to the deposit withheld.
  3. A GBP £150 late registration fee per school booking will be invoiced to schools if the registrations are received after the registration window has closed.
  4. All invoices are payable within 28 days of receipt. If not, places cannot be guaranteed at the festival.

For schools

For teachers/chaperones
Single rooms will be booked for 3 nights from 5th February 2020 for overseas visitors.
We work on a costing of GBP £90 per person per night for adults; including breakfast.
Hotel costs will be confirmed by the end of May 2019.

For students
Overseas visiting schools will be responsible for booking their own accommodation.
You are responsible for organising your own daily travel.
Please contact the Event Coordinator for recommended hotels and transportation companies.

For local participants
No accommodation will be booked for local schools.
You are responsible for organising your own daily travel.
Breakfasts will not be provided.

For artists
Single rooms will be booked for you for 4 nights from 4th February 2020.
An additional night will be booked for the Rep who will arrive on the 3rd February 2020.
You will be responsible for any miscellaneous costs during your stay.
