ISTA presents...

Dusseldorf HS

November 16 - November 19, 2017

Sold Out

Adopting a “do-it-yourself” approach to creativity and embracing chance and accident (as endorsed by the Fluxus movement) – our theatre makers will explore various art forms on a journey leading to collaborative performance.

Title

Fluxus

Starting Point

Joseph Beuys said: “Every human being is an artist”, encapsulating the ethos of the Fluxus art movement which took hold in Dusseldorf in the 1950s and 60s. Fluxus artists believed that one should embark on an artwork without conception of its end. They adopted a do-it-yourself approach to creativity and saw their work as an alternative to academic art and music. Using a wide range of media and materials to make art they often collaborated across art forms with each other and with audiences and spectators, sometimes leaving instructions for others to perform. Chance or accident frequently played a big part in the creation of the work. This festival will explore Fluxus through finding inspiration around us and how design, visual art, media, music, sound, lighting, theatre and so much more can be united to create a collaborative performance.
