Workshop description
How do we effectively advocate for theatre in an increasingly corporate school environment where Theatre, ISTA and its traditions are misunderstood or under communicated and where the CEO and the board hold sway. Padraig Downey (Dubai American Academy)will lead this conversation examining the challenges we face and exploring steps we can take to convince the powers that be to see theatre and ISTA as a gift for their schools.

Originally from Ireland, I have been fortunate to live and work in Dublin, California, Paris, New York, Rome and presently Dubai where I have spent the past nine years. I am drama director and IB Theatre teacher at Dubai American Academy and also run a theatre I founded called Danú.

I am a keen Joyce and Beckett fan and regularly promote their work wherever I live. It is one of my greatest joys to be involved with the ISTA family (firstly through the late Ted ‘Milty’ Miltenberger) where I have met – and continue to meet – the most inspiring, creative and supportive people.
