Getting to grips with Criterion B in IB DP Theatre (online 1) is a best fit timing for those located across Asia and Europe.

About the workshop

Workshop description
Every year we often see students struggle to get to grips with Criterion B across all four assessment tasks. Sometimes students misunderstand what is being asked of them and at other times they are missing a vital piece of the puzzle. This procedural criteria seems to be tricky and in this workshop we will demystify it so that every student is given the best opportunity to explore and fully extend their knowledge and understanding. This workshop will expand your own thinking through close examination of the criteria and where marks are awarded, practical exercises to build skills understanding specifically directed at Criterion B and importantly, ways of documenting and evidencing this criteria specifically.

Participants will leave this workshop more confident in teaching their students how to demonstrate a concrete understanding of Criterion B in all four assessment tasks and armed with the skills to deliver the material in their own lessons.

Learning outcomes
• Participants will gain a greater depth of understanding about Criterion B in the four DP Theatre assessment tasks.
• Participants will experience a range of practical tasks they can take back to their classroom.
• Participants will examine ways of documenting their knowledge.
• Participants will engage with the DP Theatre community, network and have the opportunity for idea sharing.

Audience
Whilst the focus will be on IB DP Theatre specific assessment criteria, non-DP Theatre teachers may also find the workshop beneficial as all practical tasks are process based and are transferable to other curriculums.

About your workshop leader

Simon Bell
I was born in the United Kingdom and trained as an actor in Bristol. I worked professionally as an actor and for the past 15 years have taught theatre at schools in the United Kingdom and internationally. I am now excited to once again be a freelance artist.

My main interests as a theatre artist are in devised collaborative theatre and movement. I particularly enjoy devising social and political theatre using physicality. I am inspired by the work of Complicité, Frantic Assembly, DV8 and practitioners such as Pina Bausch, Peter Brook, Artaud and Lecoq.

I have extensive experience with the IB DP Theatre course and have led Category 1, 2 and 3 Teacher Training workshops for ISTA. I also work as an artistic director, SEL at TaPS and master class leader, and am thrilled to be a part of such an incredible community of theatre artists.
