Guangzhou MS/HS Festival - Near West
April 14 - April 16, 2023
This Festival is being co-organized and operated through the ISTA Global Centre of Innovation – Near West, Guangzhou. The foundational principal of the Centre is to make the ‘transformative magic’ of ISTA, via ISTA resources and experiences, more accessible to Chinese public school students and the educators who serve them.
This festival is open to to member organisations within Guangdong Province within mainland China and invited local Chinese public schools.
This festival is suitable for learners aged 12 – 18 (Grades 7-12 in most International schools).
Tides of Change
During this festival we will explore the power of nature, specifically the balance between water and earth; and how the constantly moving, changing and developing nature of these two Chinese Universal elements impacts the human story.

Registration closes: Friday 3rd February 2023
Information required in the registration forms should be collected before 20th January 2023.
Travel information is required as part of the registration process. Please have travel details confirmed by the time the registration window opens.
Local Participants should arrive at the host school for registration by
9:30am Friday, 14th April 2023.
Participants should not plan to leave the host venue until after 5:00pm Sunday 16th April 2023.
Please arrange travel accordingly.
Student Learners: RMB 2,988
Adult Educators: RMB 788
Local Public School Educators: 1 free adult registration for every 10 student learner participants.
*all registration fees include festival T-shirt
Airport/Train Station pick up for out of town participants: RMB 100 per person as needed.
As this is an ISTA Global Centre of Innovation – Near West, Guangzhou, Festival, all prices are stated in RMB (Chinese Renminbi), and invoices will be prepared and payable in RMB directly to Near West Group.
A non refundable, non-transferable deposit will be sent with the booking confirmation; this amount will be deducted from your final invoice.
The deposit will be as follows:
For bookings of 1 – 10 learners RMB 4000.
For bookings of 11 – 15 learners RMB 6000.
For bookings of 16 or more learners RMB 8,000.
All registration fees and surcharges will be invoiced (minus the initial deposit) once the registration window has closed.

Travel and visas
Participants arriving by plane: Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
Participants arriving by train: Guangzhou East or South Station
then subway to Nansha Passenger Port Metro Station
Participants are responsible for booking their own travel and
securing visas for the event.
All non-local participants will be staying at a hotel near the host venue.

- All hotel bookings must be arranged through Near West at the time of registration.
- Room rates include breakfast and local transportation between hotel and host venue each day.
- Non local organisations are advised to depart Guangzhou Monday, 17th April, however, if return travel is arranged in the evening Sunday 16th April, please inform Near West at the time of registration.
- Hotel costs, registration fees and any applicable surcharges will be invoiced by Near West when the registration period closes and the registration process is complete.
Airport/Station pick up/drop off and daily local transportation to the festival venue will not be provided for organisations choosing to book at a hotel other than the one recommended by the host.
Near West, ISTA and the host organisation will not take responsibility for any arrangements made between the guest organisations and the hotels other than the recommended festival hotel.
For educator chaperones
Room Rate: Single room with breakfast: RMB 1200 per room/night
Single rooms will be booked for 2,3 or 4 nights (depending on travel arrangements) from Thursday, 13th April 2023 thru Sunday 16th April 2023. Departure on Monday, 17th April 2023.
Total hotel cost per adult chaperone:
RMB 4800 for 4 nights
RMB 3600 for 3 nights (if departing Guangzhou Sunday evening)
RMB 2400 for 2 nights (if arriving Friday morning and departing Sunday evening)
For student learners
RMB 600/person/night for shared double room with breakfast.
Shared rooms will be booked for 2,3 or 4 nights (depending on travel arrangements) from Thursday, 13th April 2023 thru Sunday 16th April 2023. Departure on Monday, 17th April 2023.
Total hotel cost per learner:
RMB 2400/person for 4 nights
RMB 1800/person for 3 nights if departing Guangzhou Sunday evening.
RMB 1200/person for 2 nights (if arriving Friday morning and departing Sunday evening.)
For participants staying in hotel accommodation
Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
For all participants
Lunch will be provided daily at the host school/venue.
Evening meals will be provided at the host school/venue.
If a social meal is to be part of the festival schedule for adult chaperones and ISTA artists this is costed at approximately GBP £30 per person.
