Starting Point

The starting point for this devising weekend will be selected in collaboration with teachers, once schools have registered and will be linked to pertinent topices being covered by the schools attending.


About this event

NEW – This devising festival is a new ‘offer’ from ISTA.

An exciting couple of days creating original theatre collaboratively, culminating in a sharing of a work in progress. Become part of a creative ensemble, working with like-minded young people who are passionate about making and performing original theatre. Learn how to create theatre from a dynamic starting point using a variety of techniques including physical theatre, games, improv, working with materials and text. Share the work with others and discover different ways feedback can be used to develop work further. Working with professional artists who work in this field, be part of an international ISTA experience like no other, making cutting edge and powerful theatre. A chance to develop your theatre making, imaginative and creative skills. A must for anyone passionate about making theatre.

Important Information

This is a 2-day devising festival for high school students based in Hong Kong.

The festival starts at 9:00am on Saturday 19th January 2019 and finishes at 4:00pm on Sunday 20th January 2019.

Information for visiting schools
Registration opens on 16th November 2018.
Registration closes on 30th November 2018.

Please note:
We advise that you have your group confirmed and all information collected prior to 16th November 2018.

ISTA artists
ISTA artists will need to arrive on Friday 18th January 2019 in time for an eveing meal and may leave the festival venue after 4:30pm on Sunday 20th January 2019.
Artist travel information is required by 30th November 2018.

Registration fees
GBP £150.00 per student – member schools.

Surcharges
GBP £12.00 for an ISTA t-shirt.

Total per student
GBP £162.00

Teachers/chaperones
Teachers/chaperones are not involved in this event. We will expect teachers to book and register students; and teachers are invited to observe. But the event is designed for students only.

Please note:
1. A GBP £500 non-refundable, non-transferrable deposit will be invoiced upon booking.
2. A GBP £500 cancellation fee will be invoiced to any school cancelling within 12 weeks from the start of the festival, in addition to the deposit withheld.
3. A GBP £150 late registration fee per school booking will be invoiced to schools if the registrations are received after the registration window has closed.
4. All invoices are payable within 28 days of receipt. If not, places cannot be guaranteed at the festival.


Travel & Visas

Visiting schools
Students will be responsible for organising their own transport to HKBU for the two days of the festival.

ISTA artists
ISTA artists are responsible for booking their own flights to the festival and will use our travel agency for this. Artist teams will be activated 12 weeks prior to the festival and your EC will talk you through the process for booking flights at the time of activation.
Artists are also responsible for ensuring they have the necessary visa to enter Hong Kong.


Accommodation

No accommodation will be required for participating students, who will travel daily.


Meals

ISTA artists
Single rooms will be booked for ISTA artists for 2 nights from 18th January 2019.
Artists will be responsible for any miscellaneous costs during their stay at the hotel.

Visiting schools
Breakfast – will be taken at home prior to travelling to HKBU.
Students will be asked to bring a packed lunch.
Dinners are not provided as part of the festival experience.
