Masterclasses
Students will take part in two 90 minute master classes. One master class will be focused on a selected Balinese theatre tradition and the other will focus on Butoh.
Teachers are invited to take part in two PD sessions at no extra cost.
Theatre
Participants will attend two professional theatre performances.
Balinese Topeng mask dance
This performance will be a lecture/demonstration of Balinese Topeng mask dance performed by Made Sidia and narrated by Rucina Ballinger. A variety of masks and costumes will be worn in the context of a theatrical performance.
Made Sidia was born to a dancer-puppeteer father (Made Sija) who is a strict traditionalist, Sidia learned literally from his father’s knees how to be a Balinese performer. He is also one of Bali’s most innovative choreographers and puppeteers on the island and has been performing Topeng since he was a teenager.
Rucina is a performer and has led numerous educational programs and cultural tours throughout Indonesia. In 1979, she co-founded Gamelan Sekar Jaya, a San Francisco – based group dedicated to performing Balinese music and dance, that is now in its’ 40th year.
Butoh performance
The second production will be a captivating Butoh performance by Butoh expert, Vangeline.

Vangeline is a teacher, dancer and choreographer specialising in the Japanese postwar avant-garde movement form Butoh, the Artistic Director of the Vangeline Theatre (New York) and the founder of the New York Butoh Institute.

Important Information

The registration window will open on Friday 10th August 2018.

Travel forms for artists should be submitted by Friday 24th August 2018.
A full information pack will be sent to all participants three weeks prior to the workshop.
Travel
Overseas participants are advised to arrive into Hong Kong by evening on Thursday 20th September 2018. Departures from the school should not be planned until after the close of TaPS at 3:00pm on Sunday 23rd September 2018.
Please arrange international travel accordingly.
Local participants will attend from the morning of Friday 21st September 2018.
Please note it is the responsibility of teachers and ISTA artists to ensure they have arranged their own visas, as required.

ISTA will make this booking and charge schools for accommodation fees at the time of registration.
Visiting teachers, chaperones and ISTA artists will stay in single rooms.
Students will stay in shared rooms.
ISTA will be booking rooms for all participants for the nights of the 20th, 21st and 22nd September 2018 inclusive.

Students from member schools – GBP £290.
Students from non member schools – GBP £325.
Students from host school – GBP £217.50 for first 20, thereafter GBP £290.
Registration fees include all workshops, master classes, 2 x theatre performances and meals.
Surcharges
ISTA t-shirt – GBP £12.
Airport transfers – GBP £10.
Daily travel – GBP £10, round trip from the hotel to the school (non-local participants only).
Accommodation costs
GBP £55 per student per night based on shared accommodation, so GBP £165 for three nights from the 20th September.

GBP £302 (member schools); GBP £337 (non member schools).

GBP £312 (member schools); GBP £347 (non member schools), plus surcharge for accommodation and travel.

All registration fees, surcharges and accommodation costs (if applicable) will be invoiced once the registration window has closed.
A GBP £500 deposit will be sent with the booking confirmation; this amount will be taken off your final invoice.
Meals
Lunch will be provided for all participants on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Evening meals will be provided on Friday and Saturday.
Breakfasts will be taken at the hotel (overseas participants) and at home (local participants).
