TaPS goals
ISTA TaPS PERSPECTIVES gives IB DP Theatre students the unique opportunity to work intensively with a series of 4 current and practising theatre professionals who each specialise in:
Collaboratively creating original theatre
Staging play texts
Exploring world theatre traditions
Performing theatre theory
Working with IB theatre students from different schools, DP Theatre students will engage with each of these specialists as well as having a workshop with an IB DP Theatre specialist. The IB DP Theatre specialist will help the students to reflect on and consider how to apply their learning from TaPS to their own IB DP course. This gives students the opportunity to frame and make the most of each of their sessions with the professional artists.
Primarily working with specialist artists, usually sourced from cultural organisations where the TaPS will be held, offers us the opportunity to work with and contribute to the cultural ecology of the places where TAPS takes place.
ISTA TaPS Perspectives provides students with an understanding of how the syllabus areas of the IB DP Theatre course are applied to real-life, current theatre practice. It acts as a launchpad for students’ explorations of theatre to further pursue once back in their own schools.
Master classes
All teacher chaperones will take part in two master classes (MCs) focusing on a specific aspect of Theatre.
MCs for this TaPS Perspectives will be confirmed by May 2022.

WINNER OF 3 OLIVIER AWARDS INCLUDING BEST NEW MUSICAL
DEAR EVAN HANSEN is ‘the most vital and important musical of a generation’ (Daily Mail, Baz Bamigboye) with ‘a raw, relevant and exhilarating score’ (BBC Radio London, Jonathan Phang) from the songwriters of The Greatest Showman and La La Land.
A timely and timeless new musical about struggling to connect in a hyperconnected world, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the winner of 3 Olivier Awards for BEST NEW MUSICAL, BEST ORIGINAL SCORE and BEST ACTOR. It is also the winner of two WhatsOnStage Awards and a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award.
Both deeply personal and profoundly contemporary, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is ‘theatrical lightning. A true original, appealing directly to the heart’ (International New York Times, Matt Wolf).

Theatre performance #2
Theatre performance title: The Crucible
Venue: National Theatre
Date and time: Wednesday 5th October 2022
About the performance
Speak of the devil and he appears.
A witch hunt is beginning in Salem.
Raised to be seen and not heard, a group of young women suddenly find their words have a terrible power.
As a climate of fear spreads through the community, private vendettas fuel public accusations and soon the truth itself is on trial.
Arthur Miller’s gripping parable of power and its abuse returns in an urgent new staging by director Lyndsey Turner (Under Milk Wood, Top Girls).
