Booking Closed

Specialised ensembles in theatre, music and dance will lead into cross arts ensembles for devising, exploring rebellion and revolution in this, the coolest of UK cities.

Riots and rebels (a cross arts festival)

Starting Point

From the Peterloo Massacre of 1829 to the post punk music of Joy Division and the politically influential music of The Smiths, Manchester has been the scene of rebellion and revolution for centuries. The artists of Manchester have been at the forefront of fomenting an often highly charged response to prejudice and inequality, and this festival will focus on the riots and rebels who have shaped the political landscape of the area. “The Smiths was the most ordinary name and I thought it was time that the ordinary folk of the world showed their faces.” Morrisey

Out & About
