ISTA present...

Mumbai HS

March 17 - March 19, 2018

Booking Closed

A Connect festival working with young people from and learning about the Dharavi slum.

Title

Mumbai’s shadow city

Starting Point

Dharavi is a slum found in the heart of Mumbai where the noise is constant and loud, and the traffic never stops. Close to one million residents are crammed into an area of just over 2.1 kilometers squared, it is one of the most densely populated areas on earth. Some call Dharavi an embarrassing eyesore, a blot on the landscape of Mumbai’s glittering financial centre. Its residents call it home. There is a flourishing informal economy and a vibrant, animated population who produce leather, textiles and pottery. This festival will use inspiration from a tour of the slum to look at how theatre can express the hopes, wishes and ambitions of people in the face of continuing threats of eviction and resettlement.
