Beyond the international school
Hands on training for working with refugee and displaced young people
ISTA is partnering with Amala, an organisation whose mission is to use the power of education to transform the lives of refugees, their communities and the world, to offer a unique professional development and learning opportunity for artist-educators interested in theatre as a tool for change.
About Amala Education
Amala was established in 2017 with a bold aim to provide alternative upper secondary education to young refugees and crisis affected youth aged 16-25 who often face insurmountable obstacles to accessing education. By providing high quality education, Amala wants to enable refugee and conflict-affected youth to improve their own lives, participate in society and drive wider societal change.
About the workshop
Title
Staging your story. Changing the world.
Workshop description
Working alongside ISTA trainers and Amala facilitators in an Amala learning site in the centre of Amman, Jordan, this three day training will provide you with new skills and approaches to apply to your own work both in and beyond your own context.
At the heart of the experience there will be a two day workshop for refugee and displaced young people who are current Amala students and alumni. The workshop, Staging our stories, changing the world, will focus on using the ISTA Ensemble Method as an approach to community building and the staging of personal stories as a form of advocacy and as a catalyst for change.
The hands-on training for artists educators will run in conjunction with and parallel to this. It will involve a combination of training, supporting, observing and participating.
