ISTA present...

Terezin HS

March 16 - March 18, 2018

Booking Closed

Described by all who attend as a life changing event. A unique opportunity for 3D learning about one of the most significant events in history. Artists, teachers and students learn so much and are truly humbled by the experience.

Title

Brundibar

Starting Point

In 1938 Hans Krasa and Adolph Hoffmeister wrote the opera Brundibar for performance by the children of the Jewish orphanage in Prague. In 1943 nearly all the children of the original chorus were transported to Terezin where they were re-united with the composer Krasa. Using any musical instruments available the children were able to perform the opera again. In 1944 a special performance was filmed for a Nazi propaganda film and as soon as filming was complete the performers were herded into cattle trucks and sent to Auschwitz. This festival will take the story of this production and using theatre, music and movement explore how we, as artists, can re-ignite the spark of humanity which survives brutal suppression.

Out & About

All participants take part in three tours of Terezin: the small fortress tour, the former Ghetto tour and the museum tour.
