Workshop description
The staging play texts syllabus area engages students with play texts and the processes involved in transforming a play text into stage action using performance and production elements. This workshop will present activities and approaches that will support students in the creation of the production proposal assessment task
About the DP Theatre Student Handbook:
This unique resource has been produced to both supplement course delivery from a subject-specialist teacher and to help steer those students who are working independently. It is suitable for both individual and collaborative work, with each chapter mapping the important stages of the theatre assessment tasks.

About your workshop leaders
Simon Bell – Americas
Simon Bell trained as an actor in Bristol and worked professionally as an actor/director before becoming a theatre teacher in the UK and US. In addition to working as a freelance theatre artist who travels the world looking for exciting creative opportunities and the best beaches, he also now teaches drama and theatre at United Nations International School in Manhattan, USA. Simon has extensive experience with the IB DP Theatre and MYP courses and leads Category 1, 2 and 3 DP Theatre teacher training workshops for ISTA.
Fenella Kelly – Africa/Europe/Middle East
Fenella Kelly is a master Drama teacher, theatre principal examiner, educational consultant, dancer, musician and respected teacher trainer of Drama and Theatre (MYP, GCSE, A Level and IB Diploma) with over 30 years of experience in International Schools. She started out as a primary teacher, but the majority of her experience has been with MS/HS and DP students. She is an experienced director, devisor, choreographer, dance/theatre company member and events coordinator. She performs and teaches Kathakali dance theatre, which she has been studying since 2004. She has extensive experience of contemporary & Latin dances and plays the flute and saxophone
Kieran Burgess – Asia Pacific
Kieran Burgess is a practitioner, teacher and student of theatre as well as a photographer, an author and a school leader. He has worked professionally in theatres across the UK, Japan and Singapore as a designer, stage manager, director and actor, and currently lives in Switzerland. He is a passionate advocate of an IB education, facilitating workshops in leadership, pedagogy and programme implementation, including DP Theatre, and conducting school evaluation visits. He was a member of the DP Theatre curriculum review team and piloted the 2022+ course, and enjoys his role as senior examiner.

- The workshop will take place on Zoom.
- Joining instructions will be emailed to participants 24 hours before the event.
- Some familiarity with Google Drive, Google Docs etc. would be helpful, but is not a requirement.
- Places are limited to 25 participants per region

ISTA Members: GBP £60 per person
Non members: GBP £75 per person
DP Theatre Student Handbook is not included in the price of the workshop and must be purchased separately.

- Once booked and invoiced the registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable as per our event terms and conditions (which can be viewed in ‘Downloads and Forms’).
- Invoices must be paid prior to the event (either within 21 days of issue or for later bookings any time prior to the event) or the booking will be cancelled.
What to bring
Required:
- Copy of the current DP Theatre Course Guide (May 2022)
- Any materials shared with you prior to the workshop.
- A notebook and pencil are always useful.
Recommended:
A copy of the DP Theatre Student Handbook.
