ISTA present...
Zurich HS
February 22 - February 25, 2018

We invite our young theatre makers to draw on visual art, theatre, poetry, music and literature to create cross-art performance using the history of Cabaret Voltaire and the DADA movement as inspiration.
Title
I am your DADA
Starting Point
Cabaret Voltaire, a nightclub in Zurich, was founded 1916 as a cabaret which promoted artistic and political endeavour in equal measure. Such was the radical, avant-garde nature of the work created at the venue that it is now seen as pivotal in the founding of the anarchic movement known as Dada. Artists such as Hugo Ball, Duchamp, Ernst and Man Ray rejected logic, aestheticism and reason, and instead promoted the irrational often as protest to modern capitalist society. It was not confined to visual art but spanned theatre, poetry, music and literature. Taking influences from the legacy of the cabaret scene in Zurich after the end of the World War One we will make a cross art-form performance seeking to reject meaning and logic of modern life. “This humiliating age has not succeeded in winning our respect.” Hugo Ball
