Letter to the community from Mike Bindon– ISTA’s new Executive Director

2 January 2024

Dear ISTA community,

It’s an honour to be stepping into the role of Executive Director and I’m excited to contribute to the next stage of ISTA’s evolution.  My connection with this unique and wonderful organisation extends over thirteen years, during which time I’ve worked in various capacities—including as artist, workshop leader, board member, and consultant. I’ve felt deeply connected to ISTA as a member of its community, and I am committed to maintaining the spirit of ensemble and creative ambition that have made the organisation so impactful over the past 45 years.

I’m also committed to continuing the legacy of my dear friend and creative collaborator, Dinos Aristidou, and to furthering ISTA’s important mission of empowering young people through access to high-quality learning experiences in theatre and the related arts to become globally-minded, collaborative, and culturally literate individuals who are capable of making a positive impact on the world.

I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Liane Campbell, ISTA’s Vice Chair, for her dedicated stewardship as Interim Executive Director over the past six months. I’d also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Rob Warren as Interim Chair of the Board of Trustees while Agustin David takes a short leave of absence from the role. My thanks also go to the ISTA team for their warm welcome and enthusiastic support. They are an exceptional group of colleagues and together we are committed to ensuring that ISTA’s offerings remain of the highest calibre.

I’m passionate about involving all our stakeholders in the formation of an ambitious and compelling strategy for the future and my intention is to reach out to you as members of the ISTA community over the coming months. Your perspectives will be instrumental in shaping the future of ISTA and to broaden our reach, while helping us to stay attuned to the current era, global trends, and the evolving landscapes of education and theatre. So, look out for a series of initiatives we’ll be launching to gauge your views on our events and wider offerings. I look forward to joining forces with you as we usher in this next phase of ISTA’s story.

In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy New Year — I hope that 2024 brings you much creative joy and artistic fulfilment.

Warm regards,

Mike Bindon

ISTA Executive Director
