What are you doing now?

I am currently studying Political Science at Drake University, in the United States of America and working on political campaigns in Des Moines, Iowa. Right now I’m the deputy campaign manager for Tricia Gavin who is running in District 22 for Iowa state Senate. I also have worked on Governor Steve Bullock’s campaign before he dropped out and now I volunteer for Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s campaign. When I finish college my plan is to work on more campaigns and stay involved in public service. How I will do that exactly I don’t know but right now I’m thinking about law school.

What learning did you take away from ISTA that you can apply to what you are doing today?

Confidence. Although my studies and work isn’t within the field of Theatre, the connection of building skills and confidence that I learned while performing and pitching ideas to other students I had just met at an event has helped me immensely.
The climate that ISTA fosters requires students to work together as soon as they meet. You can’t help but throw caution to the wind and open up about your ideas and vision if you want to get stuff done. I think the most important skills you can have are good communication and collaboration skills.
